Bold and the Beautiful: Carter Lured Ivy Back to Distract Liam?

You’re listening to Soap Dirt, the latest in television entertainment news. Hey, Bold fans! I am wondering why Carter Walton invited Ivy Forrester back to LA. Is it really about her jewelry line, or is it about Liam Spencer?

It’s Belinda from Soap Dirt, and let’s dive in and talk about what is motivating Carter to make big moves that have a bunch of people at Forrester Creations questioning what he is up to. And hey, please click subscribe if you’re not already following us.

So this week on Bold and Beautiful, Steffy and Ridge were chatting about why Carter is so suddenly excited about Hope for the Future when the numbers are not great. It’s just not doing well and hasn’t been for quite a while. Steffy had just gotten off a call with one of their loyal and regular buyers who said they don’t want in on the next collection of Hope for the Future. Ridge and Steffy can clearly see the writing on the wall, despite Carter’s unexpected support for Hope and for the line.

Meanwhile, Brooke was over telling Deacon all about it, and she thinks Carter’s passionate support is exactly what Hope for the Future needs. And at the same time that was happening, Hope was playing tonsil hockey with Carter over at his place, and he was making big promises. He told Hope he can give her everything she needs and desires. I think Carter was talking about more than just in the bedroom; I suspect he was talking about the boardroom also.

On Tuesday’s episode, we have Ivy Forrester in LA with her niece, Electra Forrester. They design a successful jewelry line together, and without checking with Steffy, it turns out that Carter invited them there to present their designs. I suspect it is for two reasons: First, this might be the COO thinking he can use Ivy and Electra’s designs to co-promote Hope for the Future, you know, some effort to help save it. And second, I just wonder if Carter is hoping that Ivy will distract Liam from pursuing Hope for that reunion he’s been trying to get.

So out of nowhere, we have Carter obsessed with Hope, saying stuff that reminded me a little of Thomas, to be honest, about how he has been having feelings for her for a while. He mentioned as far back as Rome — that was while Hope was married to Liam and Carter was dating her aunt Katie. Carter is definitely rushing to get Hope into bed. I think Carter is trying to seal the deal with her before Liam can convince Hope to give him a shot at reconciliation.

Now of course, Hope told Liam that she’s not interested in giving their marriage or relationship another go. Hope told Carter that she is looking for a one-woman man, and of course, he knows Liam is not that kind of guy. Everybody knows that he is a waffle boy who has bounced between Hope and Steffy for years. Even Deacon brought it up on a recent episode, and Brooke actually tried to defend Liam’s actions — you know, “It’s complicated,” right? That’s only because Brooke tries to normalize waffling because it’s been her own reality, which Deacon was happy to point out. Liam is just like Ridge because he bounces back and forth between Brooke and Taylor like a ping pong ball.

So I just wonder, is Carter trying to kill two birds with one stone — help Hope’s line by incorporating the popular jewelry line with it and prove to her that Liam cannot be trusted and will always have another woman waiting? If not Steffy, then somebody else — maybe someone like Ivy. That might have been why they brought the Aussie babe in for those couple of episodes in late April, to lay the groundwork for what’s next.

I mean, we all know Liam and Ivy had a thing years ago. It was more her interest in him than the other way. They were briefly married for green card reasons, but she was all into him. Then they just abruptly wrote her out. But when Ivy came back this year, she made sure to find Liam, told him she’s been thinking about him, and kissed him a couple of times. And he kissed her back. Ivy made sure to check that he was single before she did that, and he confirmed — yes, he is.

Steffy interrupted them at Il Giardino, and then Ivy flew out of LA just as abruptly as she arrived. It was really weird.

So now, fast forward to October. We have Liam trying to get back with Hope because Will brought it up and started badgering him. These young men — Will and RJ — need to butt out of grown people’s lives. They don’t know enough about relationships to give advice. RJ’s last relationship was with a lunatic — a multiple murderer. And Will, you know, picked his internship based on the women, not the job prospects or anything. These guys don’t know anything.

Hope wasn’t even on Liam’s radar until Will started prodding him, and now Liam will not take no for an answer. He is being such a Spencer. Carter doesn’t want the competition. He sees what Liam is trying to do — showing up, using Beth as an excuse to spend time with Hope, reminding her that the three of them are this great little family. But Carter is not running from the challenge, and he is behaving in what looks like a respectful way. But I just wonder if he’s actually scheming. He promised Hope he’s going to give her what she needs and desires.

Carter may be making moves to get two problems out of the way — Liam and Steffy. After Ivy and Electra present their designs, it seems like Steffy is uninterested. So Ivy goes to Eric Forrester to complain that Steffy’s personal grudges are hurting the family business and she’s not being professional. And of course, Eric loves Ivy, so he listens. Then Carter makes a big pitch to take the company in a new direction, one that I am certain will benefit Hope.

It might all be a setup to make Steffy look bad or make it look like she’s targeting Hope for personal reasons. Although this week, talking to Ridge, Steffy insisted she is not trying to ruin Hope’s life, and Ridge agreed because he said he was surprised Steffy hadn’t already cut Hope for the Future from Forrester Creations because it wasn’t doing well.

So if Carter’s plan is to cause issues for Steffy so she doesn’t have the authority to cut the line, of course that would help Hope. And if Ivy’s complaints get Eric involved, it could all get very messy. And if Ivy goes chasing after Liam, that could also get messy and could play right into Carter’s hands. He could make sure that Hope knows Ivy is pursuing Liam. You know, he could make sure Hope saw them flirting or saw Ivy kissing him. That way, Hope would read the situation as, “Okay, Liam is the same guy he always was, telling me he wants me, but he’s got one foot out the door and another woman on his mind.”

So is Carter maybe not the nice guy we thought he was? Or maybe he is nice, but he’s tired of nice guys finishing last, so he’s decided to play dirty so he can get Hope, the woman he wants? And maybe he brought Ivy to town to help with his scheme. We’ll see how it goes.
