Young and the Restless: Phyllis’ Life at Risk – Sharon Comes for Her Next
You’re listening to Soap Dirt, the latest in television entertainment news. Hey Y&R fans, Phyllis Summers is in a bad spot soon, and she may be the one that Sharon Newman hurts next. It’s Belinda from Soap Dirt, and we’re going to get another dangerous dilemma that turns violent thanks to Nick Newman. Please click subscribe if you’re not following us, and let’s get into it.
So, we had been promised a while back that Phyllis would be in danger as part of this big front-burner Sharon storyline, and I think a lot of us were expecting it to happen either on Sharon’s 30th Anniversary thing or Phyllis’s 30th Anniversary thing. Those came and went, and instead what we got was a very dead Heather Stevens, and now Daniel Romalotti framed for it. This week, Daniel confronted Sharon, and he grilled her about her lies.
Daniel knows she is lying about Heather, saying they argued because they didn’t. And even if they did, Sharon’s the last person that Heather would open up to because Sharon has been horrible to her, to Daniel, and to Lucy. Second, Sharon lied and said Heather was terrified of Daniel—also not true. That’s not been true even at the worst moments of their relationship. It’s just a lie, a blatant lie, and Sharon conveniently remembered this conversation after she planted the evidence in his apartment and told the police.
So again, Daniel has alibis, and he agreed to let the police search his apartment. If he’d killed Heather and knew bloody rags and the murder weapon were there, he wouldn’t have invited Chance in—that’s not a good “get away with murder” strategy. Then Phyllis pretty much figured it out, but there was no reason or evidence for her to figure it out. It’s just this bad leap in logic, bad writing by Josh Griffith, because Phyllis just, in one moment, was like, “Oh, this is what happened,” and she figured it out. You know, but it’s what we have, so we’re stuck with it, right?
Phyllis is 100% certain she’s correct, and she is. She believes that Sharon showed up at Daniel’s place, Heather answered the door, they bickered, and Sharon killed her accidentally. Phyllis doesn’t think Sharon went over there and did some premeditated murder or anything. Then Phyllis thinks Sharon panicked, tried to cover her tracks, dumped Heather’s body in the river, and then planted evidence to frame Daniel.
Now Phyllis has told Nick, who outright told her she was crazy and to stop saying stuff like that about Sharon. Then Phyllis told Chance, who had the same reaction. Meanwhile, Phyllis, like she always is, is a dog with a bone. She pushed back hard on Nick, told him he was naive about Sharon, and reminded him that Sharon has been unhinged, that her meds were messed up at the time of the murder, and she had been attacking and harassing Daniel, Heather, and Lucy. She went completely nuts after Faith’s minor car accident.
Phyllis doesn’t even want to talk to Nick anymore because she thinks he is deluded about Sharon. Then, with Chance, when he brought up Phyllis’s history with Sharon, she turned the tables. Phyllis said he shouldn’t even be working this case because Sharon is a witness and also possibly a suspect, and Chance used to date her and is dating the prime suspect’s sister, Summer.
As of now, Nick and Chance both think Phyllis is going off the deep end with this desperate theory to try and save Daniel. Meanwhile, the same two men also don’t actually see Daniel as someone capable of killing Heather, but then there’s this evidence.
So here’s where things are going to get scary soon. Nick showed up to see Sharon, and he found her distraught, and she was back to acting unhinged. Also, if her meds are fine, why is she still seeing and talking to Cameron? It’s just weird. So, she ran out of the house, and Nick followed. Then she told him Daniel came by, and Sharon said Daniel was making accusations. She just feels bad that she caused him pain.
Then when Nick brought up Phyllis’s theory, Sharon wouldn’t stop until she squeezed all the details out of him. Nick reluctantly admitted that Phyllis thinks Sharon killed Heather and framed Daniel. Of course, that sent Sharon’s mind racing. Nick assured her, “No one’s going to believe Phyllis.” But Sharon wanted to know who else Phyllis had told. Nick said it doesn’t matter because it’s crazy talk. But Sharon’s internal dialogue was going off like an alarm in her head. She’s telling herself, “I have to take care of Phyllis before it’s too late.”
Well, I think we all know what Sharon means by “taking care of Phyllis.” Sounds like an assault, a ride in the trunk of Sharon’s car, and dumped in the river, right? But I do not think Phyllis will go down as easily as Heather did. Heather didn’t see it coming; she didn’t suspect Sharon would assault her. But Phyllis, she’s on high alert. Sharon threw her down the stairs years and years ago, faked Summer’s paternity test, and has brawled physically with Phyllis before. Sharon better sneak up on her nice and quiet if she hopes to take Phyllis down. Otherwise, Sharon’s going to be in for the fight of her life.
So, I suspect trying to take down Phyllis will be what gets Sharon caught. I doubt it’s going to be some crack police work that figures out the evidence was planted and exonerates Daniel. I mean, Christine is a good lawyer, but she tells Daniel this week that the case against him is strong. However, if Phyllis goes missing after laying out these accusations against Sharon to Nick and to Chance, and you know either she’ll tell Summer or someone else will, I think maybe she already mentioned it to Summer.
So, people know. Then, you know, Phyllis goes missing, right? Then Nick mentions that he told Sharon that Phyllis made the accusations. I hope somebody realizes that Nick being so darn naive about Sharon has put Phyllis’s life at risk, and hopefully, somebody will go save her. If Phyllis doesn’t manage to fight off Sharon and save herself, then I fully expect Phyllis to never let Nick live this down—and honestly, she shouldn’t.
But again, I just wonder what Josh Griffith’s endgame is with all of this. Sharon can’t keep living her life in Genoa City once she’s caught for murdering Heather and whatever bad things she’s planning to do to Phyllis. Even with an insanity plea, Sharon’s got to be sent away. She’s got to be locked up in a mental ward somewhere. I mean, hopefully not prison, but some sort of timeout in some place to get serious therapy.
I just wonder, is the end of this horrible Heather-killing storyline going to be Sharon Case written out of Y&R for a while, or forever? Is this her swan song storyline? I hope not. I just—I don’t like it. It feels like she’s being written into a corner. I guess we’re going to see how bad it is soon and exactly what horrible things are going to happen as we step into sweeps, which begins Thursday, October 31st. Halloween seems like a perfect time for Sharon to creep up and scare the bejesus out of Phyllis with some terrifying deed to try and shut her up permanently.
