Young and the Restless: Jennifer Leak Died At Age of 77, Big Update!

Fans everywhere are heartbroken to learn about the passing of Jennifer Leak, a cherished actress best known for her role in The Young and the Restless. Her co-stars have shared heartfelt tributes, and it’s time to honor her memory and the impact she had on the soap world.

Jennifer Leak was famously recognized for playing Gwen Sherman on Y&R during the 1970s. Her character, Gwen, started as a prostitute who fell in love with Greg Foster before eventually becoming a nun. Leak’s three-year portrayal of Gwen captivated fans, showcasing her versatility as an actress. However, her career extended far beyond this single role. She made her soap opera debut on Bright Promise as Elaine Brogan and appeared in other daytime dramas such as Ryan’s Hope, Another World, Guiding Light, and Loving.

Sadly, on March 18, 2024, it was announced that Jennifer Leak passed away at age 76 in her home in Jupiter, Florida. The cause of death was revealed to be progressive supranuclear palsy, a rare neurological disease she had been battling for six years. The heartbreaking news was shared by her ex-husband, Tim Matheson, whom she had married in 1968. He expressed his grief in a moving tribute, saying, “She wasn’t just my screen sister and first wife, but a remarkable woman—strong, loving, and incredibly talented.”

Leak’s major breakthrough came when she starred alongside Lucille Ball in the 1968 film Yours, Mine, and Ours. She also made appearances in hit TV shows like Hawaii Five-O, McMillan & Wife, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Ironside. Despite her success in primetime television, her true passion remained with soap operas, where she enjoyed performing the most.

As her husband of 47 years, James Dorr, shared after the news of her passing, one of Leak’s closest friends, Janice Lynde, also a Y&R alum, shared heartfelt memories of their friendship. Janice reflected on their time together, recalling Jennifer’s effortless acting and the deep connection they formed on set. She described Leak as “the classiest woman I’ve ever known, always impeccable in her appearance and demeanor.”

Jennifer Leak was more than an actress—she was a mentor, a friend, and a giver. According to Lynde, Jennifer was always willing to help others, whether it was through sharing knowledge or supporting friends. Their bond lasted long after they left the soap world, with Leak even recommending Lynde for other roles.

In addition to her acting career, Leak also managed her husband’s architectural firm and later became a real estate agent when they moved to the Hamptons. Her diverse talents and generous spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.

Jennifer Leak is survived by her husband, James Dorr, and her brother, Kenneth Leak. May her soul rest in peace. Let’s all share our love and heartfelt condolences to her family during this time. If you were touched by Jennifer’s work, be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments below.
