Young and the Restless: Lucy Drinks Poisoned Whiskey – Sharon Hits Wrong Target?
You’re reading to Drinkfood. Hey Young and the Restless fans! Sharon Newman poisons a bottle of whiskey this week at Daniel’s place, and I’m worried that Lucy Romalotti might be the one to drink it, instead of the intended target.
It’s Belinda from Soap Dirt, and let’s talk about what happens if the wrong person gets into that bottle of booze. We’ve got pretend Cameron, or hallucination Cameron, pushing Sharon to get justice for Cassie. He keeps urging her, and in Sharon’s twisted mind, she believes killing Daniel will somehow balance the scales—maybe even bring Cassie back. She’s said things like that in her really crazy moments.
Before Sharon takes the poison to Daniel and Heather’s place, she debates with herself, or rather with Cameron. Sharon told Cameron she can’t hurt Daniel because it would devastate Phyllis, his mom, and Sharon knows the pain of losing a child. But Cameron doesn’t let up, and of course, this is just Sharon justifying her own actions.
In this upcoming episode, we see Sharon taking some medication, but it’s not working. Her brain chemistry is off, and her meds have totally failed her. Nick Newman, understandably worried, called her doctor, but the shrink wasn’t much help—telling him to call 911 or the police if Sharon is in danger.
Interestingly, Sharon has no recollection of buying the poison. She acted like it was the first time she saw it when she found a bag on the bed at the Cide Motel. Yes, for those wondering, the motel’s name is the Cide Motel—it’s a “notel motel” with an interesting name. Sharon thought Cameron had placed the bag there, and she even wondered if the poison was meant for her to take. For a moment, she considered self-harm, but Cameron told her she couldn’t hurt herself because it would devastate Nick, Faith, and Mariah. He kept pushing until she decided to follow through with the poisonous plan, blaming Cameron for everything in her mind.
It seems Sharon has been letting this alternate personality take over her body, doing things she doesn’t remember. This feels like more than a bipolar spiral—something is seriously wrong with Sharon’s brain chemistry. We’ll see what happens when she ends up at Fairview.
Meanwhile, at Daniel and Heather’s apartment, they’re having a nice chat. They agree to try a fresh start, put all the drama behind them, and stay in Genoa City. They’re struggling with angsty Lucy but decide to take her to dinner at Society. Once they leave, Sharon sneaks into their apartment. Cameron urges her to pour the poison into the whiskey bottle, telling her to get justice for Cassie.
Now, Sharon’s target is Daniel, whom she unfairly blames for Cassie Newman’s death. But what if it’s not Daniel who drinks the whiskey? We’ve seen Lucy Romalotti engaging in underage drinking recently. When she met Faith at a concert, she snuck in a little bottle of alcohol, and then later called Faith to pick her up after getting drunk again. Lucy is rebellious, and she might be the one to drink the poisoned whiskey. She’s been a typical moody teen, but the drinking is definitely a concern—especially at her age (she’s 14 or maybe 15, since she’s asking about a learner’s permit).
So, what if Lucy steals the whiskey? She’s much more likely to drink the whole bottle rather than just a sip. And if she does, she could end up in critical condition. Lucy drinks to get drunk, not for enjoyment, so if she’s the one who drinks the poison, it could be tragic.
In this week’s Y&R promo, we see Sharon in the woods, crying and asking, “What have I done?” If she harms Daniel, it would be terrible. But if she sends Lucy to the ER, it would be even worse. Lucy has so much in common with Cassie—she’s about the same age and makes troubling decisions. Sharon would never forgive herself if she hurt Lucy.
My other question is, will they realize it’s poisoning if Lucy drinks the whiskey? Daniel and Heather might think it’s alcohol poisoning, but imagine their shock if the ER doctors find out it’s something worse. Things are getting messy, and Sharon is out of control, thanks to her mental illness and other factors.
The storyline hits a big climax this Friday, which is Sharon Case’s 30th anniversary episode—not a clip show, but a big episode that moves things forward. I’m sure we’ll see some flashbacks of Cassie and more. Hopefully, no one drinks the toxic whiskey, but I doubt it’s going to end that way.
So, who do you think will end up drinking the poisoned whiskey? Will it be Daniel, Heather, or Lucy? Or maybe more than one? Drop your comments and let me know what you think!
