The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Surprise Recast Hits GC, Valarie Pettiford Takes Over Role of Amy Lewis
The Young and the Restless is adding veteran actress Valarie Pettiford to the CBS daytime drama series when she debuts as the recast Amy Lewis. The character was formerly played by Stephanie E. Williams.
If Pettiford looks familiar, many remember her for her role on One Life to Live as Dr. Sheila Price from 1990-94. She also took on the role of Dr. Courtney Walker on Another World from 1988-90.
Deadline broke the casting news and added that, for now, Pettiford is recurring in the role and will first be on-screen on October 29th. Bringing back the character of Amy Lewis is an interesting choice since many of the characters she interacted with are no longer on the show.
In story, Amy was a sometimes vocalist and she was was romantically involved with Tyrone Jackson (Phillip Morris) and Nathan Hastings, Sr. (Nathan Purdee), father of Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic). It has been 36 years since the character has been on the Genoa City canvas. Amy debuted in 1983 and worked as the receptionist for Paul Williams (Doug Davidson) and Andy Richards’ (Steven Ford) P.I. agency,
Eventually, Amy left Genoa City to take care of her father in 1988. Ironically, Stephanie E Williams next joined General Hospital as Dr. Simone Hardy. And in a twist of fate, when Pettiford exited One Life to Live as Sheila, it was Williams who was her successor!
Taking to her Instagram once the casting news broke wide open, Pettiford expressed, “THIS HAPPENED TODAY!!! SO HONORED TO APART OF THIS LEGENDARY SHOW WITH THIS LEGENDARY CAST!!! DEAR STEPHANIE E WILLIAMS THE AWESOME ORIGINATOR, I HOPE I MAKE YOU PROUD”
