Young and the Restless: Sharon Does Unthinkable to Lucy – Will It Cost Her Everything?

You’re listening to Soap Dirt, the latest in television entertainment news. Hey Y&R fans, things get so much worse for Lucy Romalotti this week, and Sharon Newman is to blame. It’s Belinda from Soap Dirt, and we’re going to talk in this video about what Sharon has done to trouble teen Lucy that is so unthinkable, so cruel, that it could wind up costing Sharon everything: her family, her reputation, even her business. And there is more unthinkable to come. Please subscribe if you’re not following us, and now let’s get into it.

So when Lucy first started hanging around Faith, you know, Sharon was being very kind to her. She encouraged Faith to be a friend to the younger teen, and I do think part of that was because of Cassie Newman. If you were watching back in the day, Daniel Romalotti and Lucy Winters were 16, and Cassie was 14. She had a crush on Daniel, who was pursuing Lily. Cassie was always hanging with the older teens, and in fact, that fixation on the older teen set wound up killing her. So, Sharon wanted Faith to be nice to younger teen Lucy. But then everything turned on its ear when Lucy started drinking, and I think Sharon just saw Daniel when she looked at Lucy after that.

Way back in the day, if you don’t remember, it was actually Nick who wanted revenge on Daniel, even to the point where he withheld evidence that proved Cassie was the one behind the wheel, driving in the crash that injured and ultimately killed her. Nick finally turned over the evidence, and Daniel was found not guilty. But now, it’s Sharon targeting Daniel and his family. And once again, it was a Newman driving the car that crashed. This time, you know, it was Faith, not Cassie. Lucy was vomiting, Faith reached for a towel, and she lost control of the car. And this was the tipping point in this whole story.

Sharon was having flashbacks, and of course, Cameron was spilling all that poison in her ear. That built up until Sharon couldn’t take it anymore, and she went to kill Daniel by poisoning his whiskey. But the thing is, you know, Daniel was not to blame for what happened to Cassie. Yeah, Daniel got drunk at a teen party, but he wasn’t drinking with Cassie, and he certainly never asked her to drive him home. And Sharon’s mismedicated state has her bipolar in this dangerous place and very unfairly focused on him.

So when Heather confronted Sharon at the apartment, you know, obviously, we know she killed Heather. We didn’t see exactly what Sharon did because she went into a blackout fugue state while she killed her. At some point, I’m guessing we’re going to get a flashback of Sharon bashing Heather’s head repeatedly into the floor or something like that because it was blunt force trauma. That was the first absolutely unthinkable thing that Sharon did to this kid: she murdered the only mother that Lucy’s ever known. Sure, there’s a bio mom out there—crazy Daisy Carter—but she’s never been around and doesn’t need to be.

And then, to make it worse, Sharon set it up to look like Heather abandoned Lucy and Daniel—another unthinkable act that she knew would devastate the teenager. And if not for those fishermen, Heather’s body might not have been found. And now that it has, Sharon has done something even more horrible that will finish ruining Lucy’s life. If she gets away with it, it will forever change her, and it’s just too cruel to imagine.

Let me set the scene. On the Tuesday episode of Y&R this week, Faith runs into Lucy at Crimson Lights, and Lucy tells her she just needed to get out of the condo. She’s kind of been holed up pretty much since finding out that her mom, Heather, died. So, Faith comforts her. Lucy’s crying in her arms, and she’s telling Faith about how Heather was really her only friend. Her mom was her only friend because she struggled to make friends after they moved around so much. And Lucy opened up to Faith about wishing she could tell her mom, Heather, one last time how much she loved her.

And then, Sharon and Nick come into Crimson Lights on Tuesday, and they see their daughter, Faith, comforting Lucy as she’s saying it’s like a walking nightmare. And Sharon is staring at this like she’s watching a movie of someone’s life rather than watching the fallout from a life she has ruined and is about to make even worse. Because the other unthinkable thing that Sharon did to Lucy is unfolding nearby while Sharon and Nick watch Lucy crying to Faith.

So, what’s happening nearby is that Chance wanted to search Daniel’s apartment, and at first, he told him no. But then, Phyllis convinced Daniel to go ahead and let Chance do it. She said that Chance knows what to look for and he could find some clues, get them the answers they need about what was going on with Heather before she died. So, Daniel went ahead and invited the cop over, and Chance heard this phone chiming in the apartment. And that led him to the cabinet where Sharon stashed the phone, the bloody towels, and the keys.

Chance pulled out the phone first, and Daniel confirmed, yeah, that’s Heather’s phone. And then, he pulled out the bloody towels, and Daniel was stunned but confirmed, yeah, those look like towels that we have in our apartment. None of this looks good—just like Sharon intended—like Daniel murdered Heather and was dumb enough to leave bloody evidence in the apartment. I have to assume that Chance will arrest Daniel. I doubt he’s going to go to prison. I mean, there shouldn’t be DNA or fingerprints on any of that stuff, but at a glance, it looks really bad.

And the unthinkable thing isn’t so much that Sharon’s framing Daniel for Heather’s murder, which is terrible enough. The unthinkable thing is that Sharon killed Heather and set it up so Daniel could go to prison, basically setting it up so Lucy, for all intents and purposes, is about to be an orphan. You know, it’s bad enough that Sharon killed one person and framed another for her crime, but Sharon is ripping this child’s life apart intentionally.

Once this all comes out—and it should be in November sweeps, which begins at the end of the month—what Sharon has done to Heather, Daniel, and Lucy should absolutely ruin Sharon’s life. And yes, I understand she is in a mental health spiral right now, though she’s back in therapy, she’s on new meds, and she’s still doing these things. I mean, granted, Cameron’s still around, so clearly something is still wrong with her bipolar spiral or the meds. But these are things Sharon has done that cannot be taken back or undone, no matter what the explanation is. And nobody’s ever going to forget it, least of all Phyllis.

And a lot of other people—Sharon is going to be forever seen as the woman who brutally murdered a mother, took her from her child, and tried to frame the father for it. Phyllis will make sure nobody ever forgets any of this. Nick’s going to want Sharon to get help—probably a nice long timeout at Fairview rather than prison. But he’s also going to be shattered at what she’s done, and any hope that Sharon had to rekindle a romance with Nick is done. I can’t imagine it going anywhere after this.

Faith is going to be horrified at what her mother has done. She is not going to understand how Sharon could do this, and she’s going to feel so horrible for Lucy that I could see Faith walking away from Sharon, at least for a while, until Faith can find a way to come to terms with this horrible, horrible thing—not just one thing, but this series of horrible things that Sharon has done to ruin Lucy’s life.

So the big question: how much will Sharon Newman lose over these unthinkable acts that she’s done—ending Heather’s life, trying to send Daniel to prison for life, and seeing Lucy spend the rest of her life without her parents?
